[PyrNet-L] luxating patella

Isn't Canine Panostetis (spelling?) what is called "growing pains" and can
affect any limb but as you say the youngsters ususally grow out of it by
12months. Another one Is Hypertrophic Osteo Dystrophy and is usually
recognisable by the great spurts of energy preceeding a growth spurt then
when the growth spurt starts, the youngster can be very sore in the joints
for several days and reluctant to move. Have had little experience with this
one but I know it can affect Great Danes a lot here. HOD is no indication
that you are going to have a "big, big dog". From what I know it seems that
it's the youngsters who do all their growing quickly who can be affected by
it. Long term outlook I do not know but I do know some large breeds who
have been affected briefly with this as puppies but no problems later on.
Having just gone through problems with front lameness with my friends' and
their 7 month old Newf puppy, if given a choice at the moment I feel sure
they would prefer something which Hamish would grow out of but sadly it's
been diagnosed as elbow dysplasia and in both elbows. This was diagnosed by
an Orthopaedic Specialist, their own Vet did not x-ray the elbows even
though he x-rayed all the other obvious problems.
