To my mind, microchipping also goes at least part way towards protecting
your dog from theft. Had that brought back to me not too long ago when one
of my friends dogs (non-Pyr) misteriously disappeard from his yard. The
neighbourhood was walked and posters etc posted everywhere etc etc for a
number of days. This resulted in a tip-off as to its suspected location,
but this could not be proved ("oh no, we haven't seen a dog like that here"
:-/). The posters at this stage did not say that the dog was microchipped.
The next lot of posters put up the day after stated very clearly that the
dog was microchipped and identification could be proved. The dog turned up
mysteriously in a park a few blocks away from the house that night (seen
being dumped off by a car previously sighted you know where). Thank god for
microchips.
