[PyrNet-L] Re. Old Show Dog Poem
>>Sure is a tear-jerker, Barb, and rings too close to home. Just like
Ivy
Rose when I take Paddington on his nursing home visits. She'd hate
it--all
those people! But her face when I get his gear on and leave her
behind is
more than I can bear. How do people manage to walk their dogs one
at a
time? I can't even do that!

It is just a question of having enough dogs, and you have to do it (g).
Maybe not one at the time, but at least not all of them at one time. I have
seven pyrs at the moment and walk all of them daily. I don't know if you can
imagine walking 7 pyrs at a time. I can't. Sure they hate to wait at home, but
for me the answer is to have a regular schedule, so the same dogs are walked
first, and everybody knows when it is their turn. I walk the three young ones
first, and then the adults, and everybody but the male accept this. Allthough
going on for nine years now, he can't accept waiting, and is barking his head
of, when I leave with the young ones.
This is the regular daily walks, but for extra outings
(trips with the pyr club for instance, or going to town or training etc.) I
usually bring just one dog, and they love nothing better than getting out
"alone with mommy" and I enjoy having just one dog with me - I alway
feel a little closer to them with only one present - but it is difficult to
leave the rest at home, as they are all so very eager to go.
That poem was certainly a tear-jerker - for a few years I have been sorry
that my male was tired of being shown, but maybe I should be glad instead, he
won't mind so much staying at home, when he see me take the young bitches to
shows.
