Re: [PyrNet-L] CHAT: SNOW and more SNOW!

No, we generally don't get THIS much snow and cold. We moved back here in
1992. On March 13, 1993, we had a blizzard (with high wind and lots of snow)
go through that knocked out power around here for 72 hours. No fun when you
have electric heat and cooker. Then in Feb 1994, we had an ice storm come
through that once again knocked out the power, again for 72 hours. This time
we got a small generator, that was big enough to run the TV, a bunch of
lamps, a popcorn popper, and small coffee maker. We sat and watched the
opening ceremonies to the Winter Olympics curled up in afghans and quilts,
drinking wine and eating popcorn, while the wind howled outside! Since then,
we've had some snow, but generally it's only lasted a day or two before it's
a slushily mess. Now we're prepared -- the motorhome has a big generator to
run most of the house, and we have a gas fire in the livingroom as well as a
gas cooker. Needless to say, we haven't lost power for any extended period
of time since!

Last night we did bring Kes and Zoe into the garage, and Baron and Babe were
in the house. Tanuki and Maggie were in with the goats, and they stayed
fairly comfortable. When I got up this morning, it was 14 deg, and that
didn't take into account the wind-chill. Right now I think it's in the
mid-20s, but the wind is picking up! Won't be fun cleaning stalls and
carrying all that water out to the horses this afternoon. Funny, the snow
here in the upstate is almost gone. Can't say the same for the centre of the
state. And they're predicting more for this weekend. David says "Oh, Cool!"
-- I say "When's it going to get warmer!"
