Terry, and so you will then be willing to keep a whole litter of pups if
something happens to them, is this correct?  Also, if your want your
companion to have a longer life with you, then spay/neuter is your best
option.  I do hope you understand that any dog/bitch will protect you and
yours, without having to be intact to accomplish this.
And let me ward off the comments....spay/neuter increases the chance of
longer healthier lives ( for lots of reasons ), makes better family
members, but of course there are no absolute guarantees with anything in
life!  Spay/ neuter just increases your odds, and cuts down rescue work.
