[pyrnet] seizure question

Hello all. My husband and I have quite the weekend as far as our pyr-kids
go! Any information you all might have is greatly appreciated.

This weekend, my husband and I kenneled our dog Dexter for the first time
since we rescued him 5 months ago. He's been really well adjusted for
about 4 months now and really didn't think too much about kenneling him
except for the guilt of leaving them. We even went away for a weekend here
and there and he's been fine, but we had always left him with our cousin.
We checked out the kennel after it came recommended by our vet. We found
it was very clean and the people seemed pretty knowledgeable about the care
of dogs.

We received a call Saturday morning from the kennel stating that Dexter
had 2 seizures over the course of 2 hours. We released them to take him to
our vet. We then spoke with our vet and she said he now has epilepsy and
that it can be brought on by stress. We picked our guy up Sunday evening
to hear that he had 4 more seizures over the course of the weekend and that
they were getting worse with each one.

He has been fine since we picked him up. He was a bit agitated last night
and ate/drank a ton, but we felt this was normal. Our question is, could
he possible have stressed himself out so much that he had seizures? Or,
was this something that would have happened no matter where he was? Also,
could he have gotten into something at the kennel that maybe brought this
on? Can epilepsy just start like that in dogs? I know this may sound like
20 questions, but we were pretty floored when the kennel called to tell us
this.

Dexter apparently had one seizure on record prior to our getting him after
being dropped off at the rescue. He was severely malnourished and his
organs were shutting down. The rescue people told us they attributed the
seizure to that. It has been a year between seizures and he was never
medicated for them.

Again, if anyone has any insight into puppy epilepsy, we would appreciate
it. Thanks to all the great posters! It makes for a great list and a
great resource.
