Re: [pyrnet] New subscriber

Yes we do have puppy mills here in Wisconsin too! They have a festival
in Sept. in a town near here that has turned into a giant sized fair for
any and all to sell their items [incidentally some are quite lovely ].
Probably in the area of 500 hundred booths. We usually go there and last
year was no exception, except I missed one particular area. My sister
saw this guy selling all different breeds of puppies out of a small
enclosure. Two days after going I got a strange call from a lady I
barely knew. My vet had told her to call me. She had bought a Great Dane
from this booth even though she too knew better because she had always
wanted one and of course her young daughter begged. After having this
loveable puppy home for 24 hours it got sick and she spent alot of time
and money at the vet. It had parvo and couldn't be saved. She contacted
the man and he said she could have another pup but not get her money
back----the reason she had called me was she didn't want to go through
this again and wanted to know if she got it and it was healthy, would I
take it? The vet incidentally is my cousin and knows of my love for
Danes. All this happened before we got Sophie. I told her yes but it had
to be healthy and checked. The guy kept putting her off with this excuse
and that excuse and finally agreed to meet her at 7 a.m. in a different
town. She asked if I wanted to go along but I had to work early that day
Thank God. She got to the agreed destination and as he got this
beautiful pup out she noticed it had a bowed leg. In fact one part
turned one way and the bottom turned another. She refused the poor thing
and told this man that she would hire an attorney if she had to. He
reluctantly gave her a check which she took immediately to his bank and
cashed. Now I know being the big fixer that I think I am, I probably
would have fallen in love or worse yet felt sorry for this pup and taken
it [ she was offering it to me just to show that this man was not going
to get away with her money.] Not a good reason - but hey I was getting a
Dane. We later surmised that the reason he kept putting her off was
probably because the puppy had broken its leg and was giving it time to
heal so maybe she wouldn't notice. What a JERK!! Needless to say another
one of his Dane pups also got parvo and the two vets connected and told
each of their clients. The other pup survived but after a ton of money
and heartache. This man is not allowed to have a booth over at the
festival this year--the main committee decided to black -ball him.
Another sad story, so I do know where my list friends are all coming
from and also share their disgust. Oh dear, another novel!!!! Bonnie

BE HAPPY!!!!!
