Just a short post about finding a Pyr in Illinois, I
live here too, in central IL.
We bought our beautiful Buddy in IL from a farm
couple who owned both the father and mother of the litter. A sheep farm
with working dogs. The litter was nearly gone when we found the ad in
the paper. We had 3 left to pick from.
I knew nothing about the nightmares of puppymills and
pet stores here did not sell puppies then. I was very lucky, our baby
has done well, with no genetic problems yet. He is 12. We paid
200.00 for him less than 12 yrs ago. I still see ads in the paper, very
few, and the price seems to be up to 300-350.
There are 3 other Pyrs at my vets in this town.
Please, Please don't buy puppies from pet stores. I'd rather drive 2 days to
pick up a new one than encourage these 'businesses' .
My big boy came with AKC papers to register him,
which I did, even though we never intended to show him. I had him neutered as
soon as he was old enough. I would never think of removing his dew claws
unless it medically necessary for his health. It's part of what makes
him him. He drools, of course, we laugh when we get slimed and whip it
off. I didn't know it could remove paint! That could explain the
back of our house at dog level!
There are people, farms, breeders out here, with
occasional litters. If we could find one, anyone can.

Unfortunatley you might be able to buy a
mix breed puppy from someonr out of
the paper for those prices out here.
I am shocked at how low the prices are
there. I wish I had the money to
go there and pick one out! We live in
Illinios though. That's quite a
trip. We traveled to Moline to see some
puppies but were not happy with
the breeder or the adults she had. All
puppies are cute, but the parents
were odd looking.
