I know that they have something to do with liver function.
You should talk to your vet about it and have it explained, also, I keep an 
"Emergency Vet Care"  manual for such things that I don't understand.
I have become a better patient and have asked more questions of my own 
personal M.D. because of learning things through my dogs...
