Re: [pyrnet] Pyr in Advertising

In 1983 we were asked to allow one of our Pyrs to be used in an advert for
Home Finance. The ad (TV) was to show a growing family stretched to their
limits in a small house, falling over each other etc and this big white dog
lying on the settee, sprawled out.( sounds like home!) The company
advertising the "Home Improvement Loans" was known as Broadbank. I didn't
give it much thought, I worked for another Finance company and I used to
deal with Broadbank with overnight layoffs of excess money, bank bills and
the like . The almighty profit scenario!!

Came the day of filming, I actually took the day off sick (how the economy
didn't crash without me I'll never know but none of the other Dealers
missed my abusive language for the day to other Money Market Dealers! We
worked under stress and burn out. ) Filming took the whole day. Poor
Reggie had to get on and off this couch 1000 times . He was great, it was
the Actors who fluffed their lines and cues. Finally they got what they
wanted and I think he was paid $100.

I nearly lost my job over it! You see what I had done was be "involved"
with another Finance Company/Money Market because I worked for the
opposition and over a cup of coffee on the day of filming I could well have
given away how much I was buying NZ Govt Stock back for having originally
sold it the week before!! ( Insider trading!) When the ad came on TV the
S**t hit the fan because my employers knew who the dog belonged to!! They
were not happy at all. That was my first and last foray into the world of
TV advertising!! . I could not quite get through to them that I had better
things to do with my time than discuss interest rates. The whole day was so
boring that I declared never to let one of my dogs go through that again.

As an aside the settee (new) "borrowed" as a prop from a Furniture Retailer
was lent under the condition that the plastic cover be left on it while the
dog was lying on it. Right uptil the end it was then the Director whipped
it off and there was Reg lying on this beautiful new pink velvet settee,
God bless him, all those years ago, and it still breaks my heart not to have
him!!
