Re: [pyrnet] Liking my pyrs more than ??

I can't say that I like my dogs MORE than people, but
I do love them in a very special way. I get something
from my relationship with my dogs that I don't get
from people.

And speaking of loving my dogs, I have been meaning to
update all of you on Leo. He is approaching his first
birthday (next week), and I have been posting here
since he was a young puppy.

He is just a delightful dog :-) Calm, friendly yet
reserved, sweet natured and reliable with anyone, an
excellent watch dog, fun to take anywhere, excellent
personality... I can't imagine life without him! He is
completely trustworthy in the house, which I think is
pretty remarkable for a young male (he is neutered).
He suddenly "got" housetraining at about 5-6 months,
and has been 100% clean in the house ever since.

We are both enjoying our basic obedience classes and
it's clear he is a very smart dog. He does, however,
have the typical Pyr aversion to the word "come,"
although I always try to make it rewarding for him
with a treat. He just isn't very food motivated. He is
also not reliable off-leash -- he tends to decide to
trot off to explore with me yelling frantically after
him. And last but not least, he is a major barker
anytime he is out in our (securely fenced) yard. For
this reason among others, he is mostly a couch potato
housedog, which seems to suit him fine :-)

It's so fun taking him out on walks because he is
truly a gorgeous dog. He is still somewhat lanky, but
he is filling out. He is on the tall side and is now
at 100 lbs. People always want to meet him and pet
him, which he loves (he usually rewards the person
with a bit of his finest drool. He is a drooly guy :-)

Well, that's enough about my guy. Just thought I'd
catch you up.

Katie
