Re: [pyrnet] GPCA

Charlotte, Loved your letter,....I'm almost afraid to write this now, but
you know me...I gotta say it, so forgive me.

The part about a dwarf not having to jump as high. Unless there has been
some changes, the jumps are set to the height at the shoulder of most
smaller dogs. Now at one time, the larger dogs actually got the break,
because at some point they were given a set number of inches rather than
wither height ( active obed. people please forgive, I haven't done this
in years, if this is not currently correct ). So a 36" I. W. who should
be flexible enough to go over a 36" jump, was actually jumping less per
height than a small dog. I don't think, even now, you could say that the
small dog is not competing fairly. He may actually be doing more.
Certainly those little guys
( all small dogs here ) have to hustle their little behinds to keep up
with their people even at the walk. The fact that a dwarf Pyr does it so
well, should be a credit, not a disgrace!

I think the biggest problem, like a lot of things we have to vote on in
everyday life, comes with the way things are packaged. Working to
eliminate dwarfism is a good thing, with much credit due. But treating
dwarf Pyrs. or ILP Pyrs. like their lives are any less valuable, or their
talents, or their Pyr. heart and souls are less valid, is a problem for
me.

All that said, I admit, I only get the bulletin, am not a member. I have
ILP papers made out and have been deciding do we get back in working the
Pyrs. for obed.
Every time I hear those incredible noses on these guys "pop" scent off
the ground, I think "tracking"! I'm fast becoming an empty-nester, and
need to get the "me" back. So I must admit, even though it would be done
for ourselves, it seems sad that the club wouldn't recognize the work of
the dogs, anyones dogs. I must admit, I think
Katies idea is wonderful in it's simplicity. Might bring more credit to
the breed because it lets people know what this breed can do, even if it
doesn't have an AKC number.

Ok, I said it...you knew I would! :-) Cindy
