All of mine do their marking dance after the do business during our walk each 
day.  So I do believe dogs do it as well as cats (I've never owned cats).  
They even do it in the yard - at first I thought it was a poor attempt to 
cover what they just did, now I realize that they are leaving more scent 
(than the deposit they just left, and I pick up).
There are alot of dogs in my area so I can understand them marking their 
territory!
