I once had a salesman show up trying to sell me a burglar alarm.
I let the dogs out (all 5 Pyrs) and told him I didn't need one.
(he concurred) He was, of course, still outside the gate at the
time. <G> He did ask if he could come inside and pet the dogs. I,
of course, let him do so. :-)

Same thing, here, Barb,
For several months around town, there was an alarm system company that was
"doing" phone solicitation ! (don't you just love those calls right at
suppertime !)--Somehow, they decided that I needed to be visited personally
for a "home evaluation"--even tho I had told them that I had my own alarm
system--

well, the rest of the story is about the same as what you just described--and
Guess What ?  there have been several homes right around me that have been
robbed, but my house ?  OH  NO  !!!  <BG>
