Hi, just a cute little story, We have recently had some baby pheasants born,
their in our room, in a box/cage due to needing a heat lamp right now.
I was worried about them at night, as both my dogs , Pepsi (sheppardX) and
Zeus (Pyr) sleep in the room also. I thought that maybe either would want a
light snack. As they both seem very bouncy in front of the older pheasant's
pen. Also I don't know of many dogs that done want to catch a bird.
Well I was wrong, in fact Zeus has taken it apon himself to protect these
wee creatures. He'll be lying on the floor and the cat will come in, if the
cat jumps on the bed and lies down, he watches her but is fine. If she goes
any where near the cage, he's up in a flash barking and chasing her away.
The other night, he woke me with his whining, he was standing over the cage.
I got up to see what was wrong, as one baby was peeping loudly. It had
gotten caught upside down between the box and the waterer. I had to take it
out to show Zeus it was Ok, he gave it a sniff, and went and lied down.
Funny eh?
So I wanted to agree with the statement that they "are very discriminating
about what/who their gonna guard.
