Re: [pyrnet] More on Newman's "dangling participles"

And I also believe that we need to be supportive of those who come to us for advice. The trouble with email, is that very often one it trying to say something, but it gets taken in a completely opposite way, by the person reading it on the other end. That is why we need to be tactful, to a fault. If someone leaves the list due to hurt feelings, then both the dog and the owner are losers. Rhonda, I'm sure your husband is a wonderful man, just a fairly typical one. And for some reason, the majority of men seem to connect their manliness to their dogs testes, or to a sportscar or to something else. There are of course exceptions to this rule, but the majority of men who have not dealt with dogs or Rescue over a period of time seem to take this attitude. Sometimes gentle persuasion over a period of time works, sometimes not. As long as Rhonda is a responsible owner (and I believe she is) then I'm sure she will do her absolute best to keep Newman at home for his sake as well as the sake of any unwanted pups. BTW, just thought of a solution to your marking problem that was posted to another list by M. Shirley Chong (dog trainer who has written books on the subject) Get a pair of men's briefs (tightie whities) and put them on the dog, backwards, with the tail through the fly. When he marks, he will wet the pants. Do not change them right away, leave them on for a few minutes. Then change them to a fresh pair. Most dogs do not like to wear their own urine. This will generally break the marking habit. (worth a try, anyway)
