[pyrnet] chasing joggers

Hi,

I am a new subscriber to PYRNET. My name is Susan and I have 2 pyrs, a 3
1/2 year old named Jasmine and a 2 year old named Seamus who enjoys chasing
joggers. I live in a city (Ottawa, Canada) and the only chance they have
to run off leash for exercise is at the local offleash dogpark (about 130
acres) . Most of the time this works out fine, but occasionally joggers
decide to jog there (makes no sense to me either!) Seamus is usually an
obedient dog and responds to the "come" command. However, where joggers are
concerned, he seems to go deaf! I don't want to have to leash him all the
time, but I can't allow this behavior. I have tried the "gentle leader" and
spray bottle technique and when he is on leash, he totally ignores joggers.
We have done lots of long down stays. I make him work for every little
thing. We have done the recall using an extend-a-leash. Right now I am
just keeping him on leash a lot so that maybe he will realize that being off
is a privilege and not a right.
The ideal solution would, of course, be to eliminate those joggers, and
obviously Seamus thinks so too. But we all know that is not feasible. Any
suggestions?
