To the original question: The hair does grow back eventually, though it may
take 6 months to a year for it to look 'normal' again.

On thunder fear:  I have one girl (Lisa Jane) here who is terrified of
storms and loud noises.  Rescue Remedy helps, although interestingly enough
the most effective thing I have found for her is aromatherapy.  I bought
some "Pooch Calming Blend" on a whim from friend Simone when stocking up on
nice things for me.  Simone is flutterbye aromatics:

Jane's ears and neck and massage her ears for a minute and she is a lot
calmer.
