Sam is also not good with loud booming noises.  We've found distraction the
best tactic... be in the room with him and get him started playing with his
toys or doing his tricks--jump over the coffee table, sit, stand, up, bark,
paw... the whole laundry list of stuff he does for treats.  That way he
kinda (we hope) gets the sense that while the noises are unusual, everything
inside is just like normal.  We try not to let him get the idea that he can
hide in a corner or anything like that.. but he's never gotten so bad as to
hiccup or hyperventilate, so... judge your course on the severity of
Sophie's reaction to it.
