Re: [pyrnet] Chat: Question, Please

A warning about Guinea Hens, they are very loud.  They are great as "watch dogs" and love to eat bugs, but I can't stand their noise.  I would rather listen to my Pyr bark (which she is very good at) all night (and day).

However I'll give Winnie credit, I got her from the PA rescue and without training she is a wonderful LGD.  She loves being in with the farm animals.  I haven't lost a single chicken to critters yet.  And coyotes don't bother the goats and sheep, unfortunately we have lots of them in the woods here.  She growls and takes a different stance whenever she hears them howling in the distance.

I would call my local Ag agent to find a farmer who raises Guinea Hens or ask at the local feed store.

Good luck,
Heidi in the very, very cold Catskill Mountains of NY
