Re: [pyrnet] Re: thunder

I must admit, even with the problems of puppyhood & seperation anxiety, Angel seems not to be bothered by loud noises in the least.  I was amazed at her actions when she kept sticking her nose into the wood I was hammering & using a drill on.  No stress, she was just inspecting everything to see if I was doing it correctly, I guess.  She'd come over, stick her nose in the middle to see what I was up to, then go lie down, play with her chew toy or take a nap.  Living in South FL, we have our fair share of afternoon storms.  She has shown no reaction whatsoever other than not wanting to go outside when the rain is a heavy downpour (thank God she has good bladder control!).  Perhaps it's because this is often a noisy household (9 grandchildren ranging in age from 11 yrs. to 9 months) some or all of whom are here at least once a week.

She's also used to going to work with me, at our local high school.  She hears all kinds of "racket" there, from loud voices (teenagers are not known for being quiet).  She shows no reaction to the pa system (the girl on the switchboard has no clue that her voice is MAGNIFIED), bells riniging, the industrial vaccuum cleaner, the carpentry class next to her "classroom" and all of this with the accompaniment of construction right outside the vet lab!

I'm hoping she can help acclimate her baby "brother" when he arrives in a couple of months  to the bustle, noise and general bro-ha-ha of our lives.  I guess it's the fact that all of this noise has been a normal part of her lives from the age of 14 weeks.  Sort of like making sure you make the normal noises with a new baby in the house...not putting out signs "shhhhhh, baby sleeping".  All 3 of my kids (grown now, thank goodness) were raised that way and can sleep through a hurricane.

Good luck!

Our rescued girl CiCi is afraid of any loud noise. Even when we yell loud
to get someone's attention she heads for the bathroom ( no windows). But
when we have a thunder storm, she runs for our bedroom and puts her head
under the bed and gets very upset and agitated. The only way to get her to
settle down is to lay with her.
