RE: [pyrnet] RE: pyrnet-l-digest.20040221
For years we used a standard nylon collar on our Pyrs. We never seemed to
have any problem with hair rubbing, but when we started showing, we
switched to rolled leather ones. These seem to work well, however on one
of our dogs the guard hair around the neck has been rubbed off. Since then
on this girl, I've left the collar off, but the fur has yet to grow out.
The collars are fastened with the regular buckle. I had a Quick clip
collar on one of the Pyrs and at a show reached down to grab her collar,
hit the quick release, and the collar came off! Bit of heart pounding
there for a few minutes until I caught her.
While I have never had any problems with dogs getting caught in each other
collars during a fight, I know of several people who have had this
situation. If you have dogs that tend to rough house and play quite a bit,
I would suggest leaving the collars off. All you need is one caught dog to
panic, and it could result in the death of one of both dogs.
