Hi Elaine,
Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately he can
easily knock over baby gates, and the way the house is
laid out, there isn't a way to block off the doors.

Making him sit before we go out or even when he is
going out for a walk is a good idea. This will be
added right away to his training. This should help,
although when he dashed out earlier, my husband was
coming into the house from outside.
