You're right to be concerned about sunburn and cold. Also need to consider skin irritations if they were shaved too close.
I have heard of people having to shave their rescue pyrs and the hair usually grows back ok. Have also heard from people who "clip" their Pyrs every spring and them seem to do fine. One guy swears it makes his Pyr act like a puppy again.
They do need to be protected from sun and cold or heat though. Another concern is if the "groomer" (GRRRRR!) shaved them too close to the skin they can develope some skin irritations so daughter will need to keep a close watch.
I would put t-shirts or sweat-shirts on them when they are taken outside until the hair grows long enough to protect the skin.
