I have 3 Pyrs - 2 I would never consider shaving and 1 that I do
shave. I just finished. She has about 1" on the back and the sides,
long hair on her belly, and a full tail. She was also born with the Brillo
Pad hair. It gets matted up around her collar (no matter how much brushing
I do) and the matts tend to progress down her back as her undercoat comes
out. With the shorter cut, I can brush her easier, she seems happier about
it, and there is less hair everywhere. The first time I had her
professionally groomed, they took her down to her skin. She was cold for
about a week and then okay. I live in AZ and the daytime temps
right now are 80s. She still loves to lay in the mud and on the tile. I
would worry about sunburn if you can see skin through the hair. Daisy does
not spend enough time outside for this to be a worry. Jen.

Subject: [pyrnet] Shaved great pyrs
I am so upset.
A friend of my daughter's has two pyrenees. A 4 year old old adult
female she rescued and a 6 month old male puppy. She took them to
the groomer a couple of days ago. She says there was a
"misunderstanding" and when she returned the groomer had shaved both dogs
almost down to the skin!!!
It is my understanding that this should NEVER be done. I know my
pyr can shed... and I keep him brushed. I've heard they will now be at
risk for sunburn or being cold. Is this correct? I tried to do
some web research for her but am not that savvy.
She lives in northern Michigan right on a river. Normally her
female pyr loves to take swims. I've told her not to let Georgia in the
water until her hair grows back.
What other advice should I give her?
Thanks
Sherry
