Re: [pyrnet] Deaf Dog...

Hi,

I can tell you that male pyrs will bark - a lot. Jascha had ear infections for a while and sometimes his hearing seemed to be affected because there was a lot of wax and other scum. My human son was the same. Cleaning out the stuff and a decongestant seemed to help. If you have already done that, he may well be deaf. Jascha was blind for several months before we realized it because he was able to get around the house and yard so well. I got several books on dealing with a handicapped dog, but the advice was basically always the same. Be patient, make allowances for the disability, but treat them as closely to "normal" as possible. You might try stomping your foot to send a vibration to get his attention when you are close to him. Always keeping him away from traffic since he won't hear it. And condider yourself lucky that he doesn't bark!!!
