Re: [pyrnet] [dthoele1@hotmail.com: Entry to Guestbook]

Charlotte, you must have better behaved or more highly motivated Pyrs than
our guys. We have tried the water gun technique on our worst barkers and
didn't have any success. Sure, they stop for a moment, but go right back
to barking without so much as a pause.

Kes has always been a barker, but by keeping her in a crate in the bathroom
at night seemed to keep her quiet. Lately she has taken to bark as soon as
we go to bed. If I leave the light on for her, she doesn't bark. Because
this has been a relatively recent behavioural change, I have an appointment
with my vet to have her checked out. The other major barker is Zoe. As
soon as she's let out in the paddock or yard, she runs around barking her
fool head off! Needless to say, she stays out only for short periods. All
our guys will bark if the rubbish truck, Fed-Ex or UPS vans, or a car comes
in. Thanks to a neighbor who had a husky for a short while, they also have
the habit of howling like a pack of hounds when they hear a siren. Funny,
but the two males that we had didn't bark much. It had to be something
really important for them to bark at. Baron, our remaining male prefers to
let the girls to act as the early warning system while he snoozes.
