I also had both a tubular barrier and the suction cup style for my jeep cherokee sport. My pyr was on the heavy side, because the seat didn't fold down flat if he laid down to close the barrier at just a certain angle (usually by one of the legs) his weight would lower the folded seat further and the barrier would become loosened and topple over.
