Re: [pyrnet] Snow Nose

You are absolutely right about the pink attracting insects.  No biggie?  Ever seen a dog where there is a large "fly strike" problem?  The snow nose goes along with a general poor pigment state and the pigment aids in glare control as well from sun on or off the snow, but very important in snow conditions to aid eyesight in these conditions.

Not sure it is congenitally connected with any other annomalities and most of this is speculation at this point.

As far as concern we must have not to change one of the ancient marvels of our time i.e. many of the great white LGD's that includes the Pyr, is something to treasure.  5000 years (and longer for some other LGD's) is a very long time.  Goes back to indiginous man and at the time (and before) of the ancient first civilizations.  Without these dogs, indiginous man would have had to find another way to move (PROTECT)  their domestic sheep from Asia Minor to everywhere else.  Could they have done this?  Maybe.  Would the world be the same?  No one knows for sure, but good chance things could be different.  Pretty fascinating stuff when you study it and think about it very much.

So go pat your living fossel on the head, he/she is pretty much as he was a long time ago when it was just him/her and his shepherd(s) with the livestock in very ancient times.
