I posted a note on Pyr-L about how my 19 year old son had moved home
Christmas eve and has 'met" Sampson before, etc., but has not been
here. Sampson seems puppish around Josh - ie; the tale wag/ then
down, but won't come near him (outside in field for instance). Seems
to want to play, but "scared" of Josh. Inside, he barks at Josh - but
will let him pet him, etc.
However, I now post here because I am really concerned at his behavior
just now when the vet came to give donkeys shots. Sampson has AlWAYS
just been a complete loving pest around farrier, vet and so on. I
even gave vet treats to give to Sammy - Sammy would not come near. He
did a bit of a puppy run around the guy - but seem scared. It made ME
a bit nervous because all of a sudden I wasn't sure about my
previously loving sweet dog. I should note that Sammy turned one year
old on the 25th and he has been MUCH socialized - three obedience
classes, car rides, visits to feed store and on and on.
We did just go away for three days and put him in a kennel for the
first time, but he seemed ok w/ that and was right next to Ski our
other pyr. Plus - he was acting that way w/ Josh before we left. The
vet had his small grandson and again - all of a sudden, the Pyr I was
feeling just adored everyone - well, I was not sure.
I tied Sammy up finally and when we were done w/ the donkeys' shots
The vet came over - talked to sammy, held out a yummy treat. Sammy
pulled so hard back on the lead, he coughed. (The vet was not pushin
in any way).
Gosh - what is going on? What should I do about this? This is a
"friendly family farm" situation and Sammy also gets inside time every
evening.
