Re: [inbox] [pyrnet] Re: Rescue: Parade at Nationals

As to the timing of the Parade.... there was a printed schedule of events in the judging program.  This schedule offered enough information to let the rescue participants know, within some range of time, when they would be needed for the parade.  Perhaps the schedule could have been better explained to them by whomever invited them...  In addition, I spent some time with a couple of the participants.  They seemed to be enjoying watching the best of the best in the ring for BOB, and also they were able to get some grooming information.  (I even trimmed some ears!)

Also, please keep in mind that the judge's education "hands-on" is a necessary function, and it was done as quickly as possible, and then the discussion WAS moved to the outside of the ring.  Perhaps folks aren't aware that the judges that attend our national sacrifice a great deal of time and money, often times flying in and staying at the host hotel.  All this is so the WE can teach them everything we can about our wonderful breed.  It is our one great opportunity to reach judges and teach them about proper, correct Pyrs... both temperament and confirmation.

As to breeders and rescue.....  The breeders that are members of the GPCA or of a regional club MUST adhere to the code of ethics of the club.  If there are breeders that are not taking care of their own, then a formal complaint should be brought against them.  It has been my experience that breeders are usually pretty helpful at taking back their dogs... arranging for transport..etc.

Rescue is certainly a noble and, unfortunately, very necessary function.  However, we should never loose track of the fact that the responsible breeders are the "Keepers of our Breed" for the next generation.   We cannot leave the responsibility of future generations of our elegant, regal and beautiful breed to backyard breeders and puppy mills.  If we discourage the breeding of dogs by careful and conscientious people, where will be???

Just my thoughts....
