Re: [pyrnet] Orthopedic teaching hospital

Good idea. According to the vet a few months will not make a big difference so I eill check at the University of GA, before making a final decision. You people have been such a help--you are truly a "support" group. Must be off now to clean up the backyard and get a flat fixed.

My daughter waited to see someone at their veterinary teaching hospital and by the time her appt. came her pup dog did not need the surgery, so good news there.  But, be sure and check at such a place (even if out of town) because it costs about $2,000 less for the surgery that she was going to need.

The choices I was offered were referral to an orthopedic specialist @ about $3000.00 for hip replacement surgery or to have the top of his femur removed at a cost of $250. with about 2 months of recuperation in either case >>

Shari, I think that I would at least make an appt with the ortho to see what he thinks about both treatment options or he may come up with something else. You may want to check around and see if there is a veterinary teaching hospital in your area and make an appt for a consult there.
