I adopted a "Pyrenees" rescue girl this past summer. Given she was in another state and I was in constant contact with the foster mom, I inquired immediately if the pups had double dew claws and her answer was no.  So, I knew going in that she was not a purebred Pyr, but I was so in love with her already that I continued with the adoption.

When she was 16 weeks old, I had my vet complete a wisdom panel done to identify exactly what she was.  Turns out she is about 95% Pyr and 5% Labrador Retriever. In all behaviors, size and appearances, she is a Pyr, (except she has a single dew claw and not a double), and she has very light strawberry colored eyelashes.  She is a 100% working dog, as Czar has trained her very well, and she is just totally sweet, sweet, sweet......

If anyone is wondering what the genetic make-up of your pup is, talk to your vet and see if they offer the wisdom panel test.  It sure helped us identify what our new girl is.

My new dog has dble dew claws on her rear legs. However she is short-haired. The people I got her from insist she is pure bred but I didn't know about this so plse tell me your opinion.

Subject: Purebred Pyr?

I have just adopted my second Pyr, Bone, from a shelter in Missouri.  He is a beautiful white dog with a grey spot on his back, and he carries his tail curled over this back.  He only has single dew claws on the back legs - not double dew claws.  Do purebred Pyrs always have double dew claws on their hind legs?  Bone is settleing in really well and he loves playing with my other Pyr, Coleene.  Bone is 18 months and Coleene is 26 months.  I think they will have a very happy life together!
