Re: [pyrnet] RE:Purebred Pyr?

Hi All!

I don't post often because my guys are all Pyr Mixes gotten from one rescue group or another. They are *probably* all Pyr/Old English Sheep Dog crosses - someone told me along the way that this is a popular cross in the South. It is interesting because all three have double dew claws - and are about as far from "pure" as can be.

They also vary greatly in size and type (as mutts do!) - Bonnie is 70 pounds and light in bone, Harvey is about 90 now and built more like an OES, Daisy is TALL (think Dane), light in bone, and goes about 110. All have the OES coat to a varying degree and all are pure white. They all matt and require a great deal of grooming and they don't shed dirt like a "real" Pyr would but shed up a blizzard when it comes to hair!

The thing they all share is the Pyr temperament - they love to hold down the carpet! Yep, they are great dogs - sad, too because each and every rescue I have delt with has said that they have a difficult time placing the mixes!

Gloria and the "Almost" Pyrs!

The Great Pyrenees standard calls for double dew claws on the back legs.  This "fancy point" is used as a sign of purity in the breed.  So, yes, all Great Pyrenees are supposed to have double-dewies.

Having said that, as long as you are not planning to show or breed, then he will be just as right as rain.  Enjoy your pup.
