There was a big jump in food prices in October.
I purchased about 800 pounds in September, knowing the price would be going
up the next month.
Then, I ordered another 800 pounds in December, and the price had just come
back down to what it was before the increase. (i.e. the 33# bag of TW Lamb
& Apple went up from $77 to $90 resale).
I am a dealer in Solid Gold and Timberwolf but almost only carry TW, since
that is what I feed.
I think prices should stabilize again and it was due to the
fuel costs as well as grains.
I did purchase 200 pounds of grains (oats and bulger) for the dog treats I
make and the price of the oats went up last week about 15%. I expect, it
will come back down next time I order (in about 6 weeks).
I just average the costs over time.
You may avoid paying higher prices by purchasing from a supplier that moves
their food regularly.
Also, check the website prices before you go (even print out the page) and
show it to your store and ask them to match the price at least for what you
could buy it on-line (and get free shipping, too). If they want to
keep your business, they should comply.
I notice some of my stores that carry the same foods as I do still have
their food at the higher prices, which is probably because they paid the higher
prices.
I just lucked out -- for a change.
Also, you will notice their was a big jump in Frontline as of December

Best of luck!
