Re: [pyrnet] Re: does anyone shave their pyrs?

Right now we shave Osa our Pyr and Cassidy our Newf. Both of us have had injuries that have precluded us from keeping up with proper grooming for them.  We took them down to a little more than an inch or so all around, and shorter on their undercarriages for the lay-down cooling that's been brought up. Makes a BIIIIG difference for both of them, but especially for Cass the Newf, who with her darker and very heavy coat is very succeptible to heat in the summer.

We of course prefer the long full coat -- both are just magnificent dogs -- hopefully by the time they both grow out we will both be healed up.

I live in Louisiana and even though my pry stays inside most of the time, it's still miserable for him I'm sure.

I was wanting to shave him just for the summer but I've read that it can mess up their fur. It could ruin their insulation or something like that. I've only had him clipped a little, nothing major and was just checking to see what you all do with your pyrs for the summer.
