If they don't have livestock, we are their flock and many times the night barking is alerting  
perps that they are on duty.  When not with livestock, they are sometimes known as 
* Mat Dogs* as they can be found at the door step.  My first pyr used to sleep by the front 
door, I always knew she was on duty.  : )
