My first male had mild Hip Dysplasia in one hip, diagnosed on OFA Certs at two years of age
and I immediately started him on Glucosamine Chondrotin supplements. Then after some
years started him on Adequan Injections. I also started carting with him and I feel that and
the supplements kept him active and built good muscle tone in his rear legs. As he got older
we also started acupuncture treatments. There were times acupuncture helped, but other
times he acted like he could not tolerate the treatments. Kazak did live to 11.5 years, but the
last year was difficult for him. Then I started him on NSAIDS which are not without side
serious side effects. Towards the end he was on some pretty heavy duty pain meds along
with the NSAIDS. At 9 years of age he was still carting, but I elected to not continue to let
children ride in the cart as I felt it was too much weight for him. So we just entered parades,
etc.

A heads up on the NSAIDS..Rimadyl, Previcox etc. Routine Liver panels are recommended
if our dogs are on these drugs for long periods. Vets should also give clients the
manufactures hand out on the side effects of these drugs.

One of the joint supplements I used was Synovi G 3 which has creatine, this helps build
muscle tone and for dogs with hip or rear leg problems I recommend it.
