[pyrnet] BEHAVIOR: Young male pyr body language with 5 year old female

First of all, happy New Year all.? I am writing this at 12:32 a.m.? I went out to the pasture at 12:12 a.m. to check on the dogs - Molly (Great pyr, 5) has always been ok with fireworks and Eli (turns 12 months Sunday ) hasn't had much opportunity to be around them.? I thought they would be in the wood shed/ kennel area, but called and they came around the corner.. with Eli EXACTLY next to Molly - almost "escorting" her.? I thought , well, they look ok .? (I am in my robe - it is about 18 degrees out).? Molly, head down, heads toward the barn with Eli exactly next to her.? Wierd.

I go out, hesitate and still wonder where they went.? I go back in with the flashlight and around back of barn where? there is a pool of light and Molly lying down with Eli standing sort of over her - not fighting or anything.. they've always gotten along fine, etc. But it just looked wierd.? I call them over to "suggest" they go in the straw in the kennel.? Molly walks in, Eli with her - she comes right back out and he is RIGHT beside her again, vigorously washing at her now wet ear.?

He jumps up to "hump" her and I call him down (he is intact by the way) - she is spayed.

I decide to shut him in the large shed/kennel for the rest of the night and bring her inside, where she seems to collapse gratefully next to the bed.. she is fine, but I wonder what the heck he is doing.

Has he decided to show her he is now alpha (I am not sure she cares either way), or was he being protective?? thoughts? ideas?? He was basically herding her all over.? Just stuck right to her side.? There were booms and fireworks, but really not bad at the time.?
