The report is good information- But is GPCA doing anything to help with research or helping a reputable group with the research? It doesnt have to me monetary- THe Van Andel Institute is still needing more DNA and samples from Pure bred Great Pyrs. I dont think that GPCA responded to thier request the last that I had heard. In the 1999 report section on causes of death, cancer caused 32 % of all Pyr deaths, with old age accounting for only 16%. Accidents accounted for 11%, with temperament related causing 9%. Heart conditions killed 8%, with heart, orthopedic, bloat, and infection related deaths each about 4-3%. Their special cancer survey in 2007 showed that osteosarcoma was by far the most prevalent form.
