Perhaps we need to do stuff with the nuclear weapons. How about they open a 
portal into The Dimension Where Portals Should Not Be Opened Too, and 
horrible *things* come out?

This means that the first trinity test bombing might cause horrible *things* 
to run amok throughout the American southwest, forcing a great big recall of 
troops to contain it, meaning the war in Europe and the Pacific is 
prolonged...
