[WW] Sleeper Agents

Someone a little while ago mentioned they were going
to run WW as a straight war RPG with little if any of
the arcane vein.

Along the same lines comes a few thoughts I had the
other day about taking the usual horror themes and
twisting them slightly to keep players on their toes.
Soon as the players see the WW cover they're going to
suspect there's more out there than Jerry and his foot
soldiers. Play to their assumptions. Pander to the
conclusions they eagerly leap at.

Imagine this, it's late in 1944 and the war in the
west is moving at a steady pace towards Germany.
Exchanging ground for time, the German High Command
are authorising the activation of a number of projects
previously left on the shelf. One of these projects
involves sleeper agents.

During the search for wonder weapons, German boffins
discovered a serum that could place a human body into
a form of suspended animation. Bodily functions were
braked to a near standstill, the requirements of food,
water, and air were reduced to a mere trickle of their
former amount. Unfortunately, this serum also caused
75% of those dosed to be rendered incurably insane
upon waking from their torpor.

Searching for a means to delay the Allies while
defensive lines were formed, the German High Command
gave the go ahead for select units of soldiers to be
dosed with the serum, be buried along the front lines
to be soon over run, and left to awaken and cause
havoc amongst the Allied rear areas.

Enter our heroes. Confronted with reports from local
villagers of bodies tearing their way out of the
ground and attacking all those that they come across,
the PC's are told to investigate.

From the get go the PC's are going to assume this is a
zombie bash and behave accordingly. Throw them one or
two of the hopelessly insane versions of the Sleepers
to wet their appetite. Make mention that these bodies
do seem to bleed like a normal person but yet don't
appear to feel pain or wounds (they're insane, no
surprise there).

Once everyone is comfortable with the idea this is
merely a case of the undead looking for brains, hit
them with the 25% who are perfectly rational and more
than proficient in the killing arts. Rather than a
zombie bash the PC's are now confronted with the
concept that there's more than one hunter in the woods
these days.

The PC's can recover a set of orders from a body after
they've vanquished the Sleepers letting them in on the
actual secret of what's going on.

Cheers,
Mr. B
