[WW] Re: The Best Gaming Website!
I in no way meant to compare Pinnacle's website with WotC or AEG except to
say that the latter two are (I am assuming) bigger -- right now ;)-- and
probably have bigger staffs and probably have a couple or three people on
their staffs who are dedicated to their web presence. I do not think AEG's
web page is superior (I really should not have mentioned them at all), but
WotC's is pretty neat (in terms of "attracting" people (read: kids) to their
products -- mainly Magic: The Gathering). Now, I like Pinnacle's web site
best of all and Shane & Co. really put a lot of effort into making it what
it is -- a great gaming web page. My original posting was meant to defend
Pinnacle against anybody who says they should have a better web page -- I
was basically trying to say, "Give them a break." Also, after I re-read the
last line of my post, it sounded as if I was calling for them to intensify
their efforts to put out quality product, but what I meant was I am glad
they continue, and ALWAYS have, put out quality product, even when
Pinnacle's web site was down and/or didn't get updated as often. I can't
say that about AEG or most companies. I really don't think Pinnacle should
have to look/act/think like any other gaming company -- the fact that it
doesn't is why I am continually in awe of their accomplishments. Leave the
"fancy" websites to the companies who have to dress up their games in the
hopes that people will be duped into buying their tasteless product.

Well, IF Shane had a full-time (heck even a part-time) web designer on
payroll, it would be more fancy (remember, it's just Shane and Lee and a
couple of part-time warehouse staff, and Shane said he pretty much had to
learn how to make a web page from scratch); however, it is a good web page
and the ordering system works! I doubt the web page will ever be like
Wizards of the Coast or AEG -- those companies probably have more than a
couple of web designers on payroll. I agree that a catchy, highly
interactive web page with music and special effects entice people to buy
more, but if the product sucks, then it doesn't matter if the company has
a
killer site. Demos, conventions, magazine ads, and word of mouth are some
of the best ways to promote good gaming products. Pinnacle's recovering
from last year's divorce from Cybergames, so some things have to get put
on
the back burner -- I'd rather see them continue to put out quality
product.

Just to kick loose some avalanche: IMHO the peginc-Website on a scale of 1
to 10 (best) rates a 2, 3 at most. How do you others feel about it? If you
are not a fan, you will probably put off by the website and turn to other
producers.
And wouldn't that be a shame, since the products are so well done?

Hmm. I actually think our site is as good as those others, on the surface
anyway--but I guess that's a matter of opinion.
We have some serious techincal issues to work out for you knuckleheads who
still have to use NetScape 4-whatever, but other than that, our site
(IMOH)
is well laid out and easy to navigate.
No, I don't have any animation or flash plug-ins, but whenever you add
that
kind of stuff, you get far more people telling you they hate it. So I
guess
if you have some constructive ctiticism, go ahead and email me
privately--just don't expect a reply please because we're almost out the
door
for GenCon. But I will look at it.
Thanks!

Okay - I have just got to ask. . . what exactly do you see in the AEG
website?

MUSIC ON WEBSITES IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN! Webdesingers who use music on
their sites should be shot.... or at the very least given a proper
pounding. In my ever-so-humble opinion.

Now there's a good question. It has been my experience that the AEG
site is pretty simplistic with rare updates, late news, and no links
to some of there games.
