Cool idea - I don't have Photoshop, because it's a bit pricey, but there's a Windows version of The GIMP that can be downloaded that offers a lot of the same functionality. Also a good point about using .jpg or .gif files to ensure that everyone can view the image.  I'll have to try that out.

(with his kind permission) and numbered a grid of my
own over it. That way I can use Photoshop's layers to
move characters around, while being able to represent
irregular shapes such as cavern walls and canyons.
Plus, saving it as a .jpg or .gif makes sure everyone
with web access (important for PBeMs) can see it.
