Okay, everyone's seen the Sixth Sense, right? What
about Stir of Echoes? Same idea, just that one was
born with it and one wasn't. Ok, imagine the players
are out in the field and here the sounds of battle
ahead in the trees. As they make their way there, a
number of GI's come running out of those trees,
running for their lives. They're part of a platoon
that was blindsided and now these few (3-5) are all
that's left. One or two should be wounded so as to
give the players are reason to retreat rather than try
to fight the oncoming Germans. If they still choose
to stay, make the German opposition more than
formidable so they'll know that to stay is to die.
Once they get clear and are able to find some place
to lay low, question and answer session will no doubt
ensue. Make the new soldiers personalites however you
like, except one: Johnny.
By all appearances, Johnny would seem to be
suffering from shell shock. The others will simply
whisper that, "He's lost it". You might have Johnny
suddenly clap his hands to his ears and begin
shouting, "Shut up! Shut up! Go away!" Johnny isn't
shell shocked of course, he can hear and see the
spirits of the dead. These spirits, upon realizing
this, won't leave him alone. He has dead GI's begging
him to tell their girls back home that they love them,
some simply crying or screaming at their situation and
he also has german troops talking, crying and yelling
at him in german.
But, of course, even if they can get him to talk,
who in their right mind would believe such a thing?
The kid's obviously lost it. As they try to reach
reinforcements, the players will have to deal with
Johhny's raving. This could make sneaking past german
troops rather difficult. Sooner or later, someone is
going to get the idea in their head that the only way
they'll make it is if Johnny isn't along for the ride.
About the time the players have had enough of him,
have him be talking to someone (obviously they can't
see a ghost) and mention germans over the hill they
are about to go over. The players might buy it, they
might not. Let them find out for themselves.
Another way to chill them is to have Johnny tell
them something about themselves that only one other
person knew... and that person died by a german
sniper.
Little things such as this just to have the players
wondering.
So what happens now? In my campaign, Johnny is
going to put a gun to his head. The stress is just
too much. This way my players will never truly know
if Johnny could really see and speak to the dead or if
the things he knew were just insane insights. Or you
could leave Johnny around a little longer so the
players start to believe he can do what he says and
then have him wisked away by a group of officers...
OSI.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my idea.
