Actually, the pentagram isn't Satanic. It's been used in mysticism for
centuries.  It's just modern Fundamentalist persecution that's led people to
BELIEVE that the pentagram is Satanic, whatever direction the points are
facing in- they think it's inherently evil pointing in any direction.

However, I also noticed that the first time you said what the pattern made,
you said "pentagon".  This made me think of Discordianism.  Perhaps you
could have the group be a bunch of Weird West Discordians who are killing
people with each Arcane Background (standard plus Voodooists so it adds up
to 5 ABs) in the same pattern (though perhaps just one of each- Discordians
are anarchistic, but not what you'd call murderous).  You could then have
them be in the middle of the Pentagon pattern trying to summon Eris, Goddess
of Chaos herself.  Make the people they're killing people who are trying to
oppress the general citizenry to fit in with the Discordian ideal of
personal freedom for all.  I'd recommend that you read the Principia
