Re: [DL] Japanese in DL



Sorry folks.... the ancient Japanophile in me just kicked in.

The Meiji Restoration started in 1868, NOT 1879.  And the opening up of 
Japan to the west started in 1853, with US Commodore Matthew Perry steaming 
into Tokyo Bay with US gunships.

It is feasible for Japanese samurai to be in the american west at this time. 
  However, there were no real major immigrations of japanese to the US 
mainland until almost 1900.  If you were dealing with Hawaii that would be 
different.  There, Japanese start immigrating in around 1868.

It's feasible to have the random Japanese person, but not large contingents 
of them.  They should be rare and exotic.
