No, I've haven't read the original, I've never been one for 
"classics", however are you recommending it?

I've seen both movies, the 1973 one a few times and the Disney one 
once (it was enough) and pretty much agree with your comments.

I don't really have much of a hang up about Alexandre Dumas, apart 
from the fact somewhere some sod has nicked his name and given it to 
an evil git and I can't remember where!  But I'll keep looking.
