Re: [DL] Legion of Rabid Fans

Wow, I sure missed a lot of chatter this weekend!

I'm still fairly new to deadlands, I don't know cybergames or much about the gaming industry in general and I'm still working on developing my campaign(s) (dam life keeps interferrin), but I will say this:
it is overwhelming sometimes to look at a whole shelf of supplements.

As much as I love the idea of never running out of inspiration via supplements, I sometimes find the sheer quantity I have to read is, intimidating. I'm still playing catch-up to the rest of you I suspect, and there does come a point where I've got to say whoa! and do other things with my time.

my personal pet peeves:

pdf files of material? are you nuts? at my current rate I don't trust the speed of technology to wait for me to get around to reading them -I'll have to print them out and bind them myself (a naturally inhibiting process). The coolest thing about printed matter that the computer still hasn't beat is that stability. (yeah fire, & flood! an all that but how well do you think your cd's,zips, computer, & printer would fare?! -exactly!) The pretty cover, the art, the actuall physical quality may seem insubstantial, but I value it -as well as the convenience!
I'm quite willing to pay more for those things. I'll wait til they're released in print to buy them.

More maps! give me buildings, towns, mines whatever. I recently bought Boomtowns -Bravo! please give us more of that!

I have no fear about the legacy that is deadlands, I'll be playing and reading no matter what cybergames does, but I can well understand the personal pain that others might endure. Any time one invests themselves in something creatively there is a sense of ownership and to then have to share it with others, allow others to have a say in what happens, that can be heartwrenching.
I have a great deal of respect and admiration for anyone who can sacrifice their personal investment emotional and otherwise for the sake of the ultimate product: Deadlands That takes guts, faith, humility, and pride.
well done Shane!

Hah! I'm no longer just a cup of hot water waiting for that teabag of evil!
I've blown out the pyschic red lantern, I've closed the proverbial "pyschic legs"
so GET SNUFFED! and then we'll talk.
