I live some 50 to 70 miles south of your friend and the new marshal in SF so
getting together might be a problem. I do have a suggestion for them, if
they do not know a major (for the area) Con is coming President's weekend.
It's called DunDraCon (www.dundracon.com), is four days long and a hell of a
blast and meet people in the area.
